POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — Broward Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect following a shooting that left a toddler dead in Pompano Beach on Saturday afternoon.

Our hearts are heavy as we report the tragic loss of a young child due to an avoidable scenario involving an unattended firearm.

At approximately 1:47 p.m., BSO deputies were dispatched after reports came in regarding gunfire near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Pompano Beach. Sadly, when they reached the scene, deputies found that a two-year-old child suffering from a gunshot wound.

Detectives from BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units swiftly took action by investigating this heartbreaking incident while also calling on assistance from our Child Protective Investigation Section specialists.

Their combined efforts uncovered that Lius Appolon had left his firearm unsecured which ultimately led directly to this tragic event – he has since been arrested on manslaughter charges related to this case.

Hopefully, gun owners in our community take responsible measures when it comes to securing their firearms and following basic safety rules, so we can prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
