POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — A driver has been arrested more than two years after a violent two-vehicle crash at a busy Pompano Beach intersection left one passenger dead and multiple people hospitalized, Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives said.

Investigators say the collision happened around 5:42 p.m. on May 21, 2023, at North Andrews Avenue and West Copans Road. Broward County Regional Communications took the initial call, and BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded.

Detectives said 24-year-old Jezeniah Gonzalez, of Hollywood, was driving a 2012 Ford Focus northbound on North Andrews Avenue in the right through lane. At the same time, a 2018 Infiniti Q50 was traveling westbound on West Copans Road and turning left onto North Andrews Avenue, investigators said.

As both vehicles entered the four-way intersection, the Ford struck the Infiniti in what detectives described as a T-bone style collision.

According to BSO’s on-scene findings, the Infiniti had a steady green arrow for the left turn. The Ford entered the intersection on a steady red light, investigators said.

The impact was severe. Fire rescue crews had to remove the roof of the Infiniti to extricate the driver and the passenger, detectives said. Everyone involved was taken to Broward Health North with life-threatening injuries.

The passenger in the Infiniti later died at the hospital. Under Marsy’s Law, BSO said it is withholding identifying information for the passenger and for the Infiniti’s driver.

Detectives say speed was a key factor.

After reviewing the case, investigators determined that excessive speed by Gonzalez contributed to the crash. They estimated the Ford Focus was traveling between about 90 and 102 miles per hour at the time of impact, in a posted 40 mph zone.

BSO announced Tuesday that Gonzalez turned herself in at the BSO Main Jail on Dec. 15, 2025. She was booked into custody, detectives said.

Gonzalez faces one count of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving with serious bodily injury, according to BSO. The agency listed the case as an update to its 2023 traffic homicide investigation.

The crash happened at a major intersection that carries daily traffic between Andrews Avenue and Copans Road, a corridor lined with businesses and neighborhoods. Investigators did not release additional details about the victims’ current medical conditions beyond describing their injuries at the time as life-threatening.

No further court information was included in the release.
