BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — The City of Boca Raton leaders support the new “quick build” at SE Mizner Boulevard and NE 2nd Street because they say it will enhance cyclist and pedestrian safety through its painted markings and flexible posts.

The intersection upgrade became available to the public during the Micro-Mobility Safety Symposium which Boca Raton hosted on October 30. The walking workshop allowed attendees to experience the new changes by walking with Boca Raton staff members. The demonstration employed vibrant pavement markings together with plastic posts to establish protected bike lanes which served as a short-term solution for evaluating new designs before building permanent infrastructure.

“Quick builds let us see what works in real time,” one city staffer explained during the walk. “It’s about observing traffic behavior, safety, and flow — then refining from there.”

The event brought together staff members from the city along with local residents and partners from the Boca Raton Police Department and Fire Rescue and the Office of Sustainability and the Children’s Science Explorium and the Citizens’ Pedestrian & Bikeway Advisory Board. The proposal brings together all road users who share the roads and protect road users to discuss improved mobility solutions with enhanced safety features.

City leaders believe the demonstration shows Boca Raton continues its work to develop a “multimodal mobility system” which provides equal transportation options for drivers and cyclists and pedestrians. The initiative aligns with the City Council’s broader goal of improving safety and sustainability through collaborative planning and innovative design.

Those efforts include partnerships with the Florida Department of Transportation, Palm Beach County, the Transportation Planning Agency, and the South Florida Regional Transit Authority. The city has established a forward-looking transportation network which they are developing through their joint efforts to create an efficient sustainable system that serves the needs of expanding population.

Residents can learn more about upcoming mobility projects and transportation services on the city’s website.
