ORIGINALLY REPORTED
WEST PALM BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — Federal agents have shut down a major stretch of Southern Boulevard in both directions as part of an ongoing FBI investigation, bringing traffic to a crawl near Palm Beach International Airport — just as President Donald Trump is in town.
The road closure between Congress Avenue and Military Trail started on Friday and will stay in effect until officials give further instructions. Both eastbound and westbound lanes are affected, cutting off one of the county’s most heavily traveled routes connecting I-95 to the airport and Palm Beach Island.
The FBI has confirmed that agents are conducting “an active investigation” in the area but declined to share further details. Local police forces perform their main duty by conducting roadblocks and controlling traffic movement.
While no connection between the investigation and the President’s visit has been confirmed, the closure sits along the same corridor often used for his motorcade when traveling between Palm Beach International Airport and Mar-a-Lago.
Multiple drivers experienced long traffic delays which extended across multiple miles while some drivers took alternative routes through residential areas and side streets. The area around Congress Avenue experienced traffic congestion and driver confusion because police redirected traffic from this location.
The FBI has not established any schedule for reopening the roadway.
Boca Post will continue to update this story as more details are released by federal and local authorities.
