The Violent Crimes Unit of the Broward Sheriffs Office is currently searching for a person who was captured on surveillance footage deliberately setting fire to the entrance doors of a church, in Oakland Park.

According to investigators, at 1;41 a.m., on Monday August 14th Broward County Regional Communications received a report about a fire at 2600 N.W. 21st Ave. The BSO deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue quickly responded to the scene. After extinguishing the fire firefighters discovered evidence suggesting that the fire at Power Outreach Ministry may have been intentionally started. The Oakland Park City Fire Marshal was also called in. Determined that it was indeed an act of arson.

The surveillance video reveals an individual entering the parking lot of the property carrying a gas canister. They proceeded to pour liquid onto the doors. Then ignited a paper towel to set them ablaze. The resulting fire caused, over $1,000 worth of damage.

After setting fire to the door the person can be seen fleeing towards Northwest 26th Street heading westbound. If you have any information regarding their identity or whereabouts as seen in the video please contact BSO Detective Robert O’Dor at 954 321 4849.
