LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — A pedestrian struck in downtown Lake Worth Beach on Saturday has died, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened around 9:39 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Dixie Highway and Lucerne Avenue. A 2009 Honda Pilot, driven west on Lucerne, went through the intersection as the light turned green and hit a woman in the crosswalk, according to investigators.
The pedestrian—identified as Karen Petrillo — had started from the southwest corner and was crossing toward the northwest corner when she was struck. The impact vaulted her into the air and she landed in the right-hand westbound lane of Lucerne. She was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center.
On Sunday, Nov. 9, at approximately 11:56 a.m., PBSO updated the case to a fatality. The woman was pronounced deceased at St. Mary’s and that next of kin had been notified. Investigator Sean Ramsey (ID 8288) is listed on the report.
The driver is listed as Charles Cherilus, 63, of Lake Worth Beach. The vehicle is a 2009 Honda Pilot, according to PBSO. Cherilus continued a short distance west after impact before coming to a controlled stop in the right-hand lane, the SBI entry says.
PBSO indicates that charges are pending and that drugs and/or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
This is a developing case in PBSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit. Boca Post will update if the sheriff’s office releases a full narrative, citations, or arrests.
