Jose Villatoro Passed Away

PAHOKEE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — An 80-year-old Miami man died after crashing a commercial truck in Pahokee on Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened at 4:37 PM on Sunday, October 8th, 2023 on US-98, near 2124 East Main Street in Pahokee.

According to the crash reporting officer, Jose Villatoro, an 80 year old resident of Miami, was driving a commercial truck west on US Highway 98 (in the 2000 block of East Main Street).

For reasons unknown, Villatoro, veered off the road and onto the right grass shoulder. This caused the front of the Freightliner tractor to collide with a large palm tree. Following this impact, the Freightliner tractor continued off road in a westerly direction and its front left side struck another large palm tree. The tractor then proceeded further west before colliding with a third large palm tree. Upon hitting this third palm tree, it fell over and trapped Villatoro in the driver’s seat.

Villatoro was airlifted by trauma hawk to St. Mary’s Medical Center due to serious injuries sustained in this crash. Moss Towing company removed the Freightliner tractor from the scene and transported it to their storage lot.

Sadly, Villatoro was pronounced deceased several hours later at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
