Mario Bonilla, 55, Passed Away

WESTON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is looking into a shooting involving a deputy that happened in Weston on Monday morning.

55-year-old Mario Bonilla, who was previously identified as a missing person, has been shot and killed by BSO deputies in Weston.

At 9;11 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2024, the Broward Sheriffs Office received a report, about a person inside a parked vehicle on Capri Lane. Deputies arrived at the scene. Approached the individual, identified as Mario Bonilla. Bonilla exited the vehicle with a weapon, in hand. Despite deputies instructing him to drop the weapon Bonilla did not. Instead charged at them leading to one deputy firing their weapon. Bonilla was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fortunately no deputies were harmed during the incident. The deputy who discharged their weapon has been placed on duty while further inquiries are conducted.

Bonilla was previously involved in a missing persons case with a missing persons bulletin issued for him on Saturday, February 10, 2024.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still being looked into with FDLE taking the lead in investigating this matter.
