TAMARAC, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — 67-year-old Jeanne Jean of Lauderhill was struck and killed by a car shortly after getting off the bus in Tamarac on November 15th, 2022.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that Jean was struck and killed in Tamarac on Tuesday, Nov. 15, and detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 8:29 a.m. near the entrance/exit to the McDonald’s parking lot located at 7600 West Commercial Boulevard. The preliminary investigation revealed Jeanne Jean exited a city bus and was walking eastbound on the sidewalk approaching the parking lot. At the same time, Nicholas Melgar was traveling south through the parking lot of the McDonald’s in a 2012 Mazda 6 and stopped at the stop sign to make a right turn onto West Commercial Boulevard.

Detectives said Jean was directly in front of the Mazda when it began to move forward pushing her to the ground. Melgar initially left, but shortly after returned to the scene and cooperated with investigators.

BSO deputies and Tamarac Fire Rescue responded. Paramedics transported the woman to Broward Health Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased.

The investigation continues.
