TAMARAC, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that they are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that left a 22-year-old bicyclist dead in Tamarac.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that at approximately 10:39 AM on Saturday, October 8th, 2022, deputies responded to the area of NW 47th Terrace and West Commercial Boulevard in Tamarac in reference to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident.

Responding BSO district deputies and Tamarac fire rescue located a 22-year-old man, identified as Elijah Thompson, deceased at the scene.

BSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives were notified and began an investigation into the incident. Detectives tell us that Thompson was attempting to cross West Commercial Boulevard at Northwest 47th Terrace from north to south while riding his bicycle within the designated crosswalk. At the same time, an unknown vehicle was traveling eastbound on West Commercial Boulevard approaching Northwest 47th Terrace. The front of the vehicle struck Thompson’s bicycle propelling him off the bicycle and into the roadway. The driver of the vehicle then fled the crash scene.

Based on evidence recovered on the scene, the vehicle involved in the crash is believed to be a dark color, 2018-2020 Infinity Q50. The vehicle will likely have front-end damage.
Detectives wish to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash or its aftermath. Anyone with information on the driver or the vehicle involved is urged to contact BSO Traffic Homicide Det. Sherry Portoro at 954-321-4843.
