OAKLAND PARK, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — A man was arrested in connection with a carjacking and kidnapping incident.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit detectives apprehended the suspect, identified as 35 year old Willio Petioma, who stole a vehicle with a child inside after an anonymous tip helped identify him.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 26 at 850 W. Commercial Blvd. In Oakland Park when the mother and her three year old daughter were involved in a car accident. As the mother stepped out of her car to exchange information with the other driver, an unknown man got into her vehicle and drove off with the child inside. Despite the mother’s efforts to stop him, she was dragged before falling to the ground as he fled the scene.
Surveillance footage captured several moments of the suspect during the incident. The individual was observed getting out of the car with the child in a car seat and leaving her on the sidewalk. In another instance, the person abandoned the vehicle. The last video shows the individual using the victim’s credit card at a Family Dollar store.
On Sunday, June 30, Petioma was arrested and taken to BSO Main Jail. He is facing charges including kidnapping, carjacking, interfering with custody of a minor and unauthorized use of a credit card. Additionally, he was detained based on a Palm Beach County warrant for possession of cocaine and resisting an officer.
