UPDATE

Broward Sheriff’s Office Robbery Unit detectives say two individuals have been arrested for a robbery and shooting that occurred in North Lauderdale earlier this week.

According to investigators, around 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, Broward County Regional Communications received reports of a shooting in the 4000 block of Bailey Road in North Lauderdale. BSO deputies responded. The preliminary investigation reveals that the victim and a juvenile male arrived at the location in order to conduct a transaction with Daniel Gray. While inside a vehicle driven by Gray’s girlfriend, Neki Lys, Gray shot the victim. The victim exited the vehicle and the vehicle fled the scene.

North Lauderdale Fire Rescue and Tamarac Fire Rescue also responded and assisted in airlifting the victim, who was located nearby, to an area hospital. The victim was transported in the Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue helicopter. The victim remains in critical condition.

Robbery Unit investigators say the investigation revealed that later that same day Lys reported her vehicle stolen to the Boca Raton Police Department. After speaking with detectives, Lys confessed to making a false report about her vehicle being stolen and admitted that she made the report in an attempt to conceal the earlier violent crime. Lys was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 25, and is currently being held in jail in Palm Beach County.

On Jan. 25, a Broward County judge signed BSO’s arrest warrant for Daniel Gray. On Jan. 26, BSO’s V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) arrested Gray in Miramar and transported him to BSO’s Main Jail. He was arrested for a number of crimes including attempted first degree murder, robbery with a firearm and several counts of violation of probation.

At this time, the investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing.
