LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office tells us that 26-year-old Scott Mendez died after a motorcycle accident in Lauderdale Lakes on August 25th, 2022.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that they are investigating a Lauderdale Lakes crash that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.

The crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, near the 4400 block of South State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes. The preliminary investigation revealed the victim, Scott Mendez, was traveling southbound on a 2015 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle on State Road 7 in the left-thru lane. At the same time, the driver of a 2017 Nissan Altima was traveling northbound in the dedicated right lane of State Road 7.

According to investigators, the driver of the Nissan proceeded to turn west towards an access road when the victim’s Kawasaki collided with the passenger side of the vehicle. The impact ejected Mendez from the motorcycle, and he came to a final rest in the southbound center thru-lane. Detectives say the collision occurred with such force that it caused the Kawasaki to rip in half and travel in opposite directions and that the vehicle’s passenger side was crushed into the driver’s side.

BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the incident. On scene, witnesses told investigators that the motorcycle began to rapidly accelerate right before the crash.

Paramedics transported Mendez to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Nissan was also transported to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries. On Friday, Aug. 26, detectives were informed that Mendez was pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.

Excessive speed on behalf of the victim is being considered a factor in this case. The investigation continues.
