BROWARD COUNTY, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office has integrated its pretrial services division (house arrest) with regional communications to expedite the arrest of violates.
BSO tells us that the Pretrial Services Division, the Department of Law Enforcement, and the Broward County Regional Communications Department recently collaborated to create an enforcement program that will be hard on house arrest violators. BSO says that they are currently supervising over 2,000 pre-trial defendants.
This new initiative will allow BSO law enforcement deputies to be alerted and respond to violations of the pretrial program, such as a GPS violation or a bracelet tamper incident. When such events occur, deputies will be notified and allowed to make a felony arrest of the defendant.
“A process was previously in place to track down violators; however, this new joint enforcement has allowed BSO to add and develop more efficient protocols,” said David Scharf, Director of Community Programs.
BSO says that within the first few days of the new program, a defendant was arrested by a zone deputy for violating a restricted area – a victim’s home. Deputies were notified of the violation and found the suspect hiding near the victim’s home. The defendant was then arrested and lost his pretrial release privilege.
