DELRAY BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — A 75-year-old mother was driving her adult son somewhere and wound up in a canal after she refused to buy him liquor.

Daniel Mascia, 38, was charged with Aggravated Battery (On Person 65+) and Criminal Mischief (Damage $1000 or more) after he allegedly caused his mother’s vehicle to crash into a canal.

According to an arrest affidavit submitted by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Mascia was being driven by his mother near Atlantic Ave and Legends Way in Delray Beach on April 30th at 9:30 PM when the crash happened.

According to the report, Mascia asked his mother to buy him liquor. When she refused, he allegedly grabbed the wheel and pulled it hard to the right, causing the vehicle to swerve off-road and into a canal.

Both Mascia and his mother were rescued from the vehicle and transported to Delray Medical Center. Mascia’s mother was transported as a trauma alert due to her age and the severity of the accident. Sources tell Boca Post that Mascia’s mother may have hit her head on the windshield.

Mascia was arrested the following morning while in the hospital. Mascia is still in the custody of the PBSO jail, a familiar place for him, as he has been arrested 4 times since February.

According to court records, Mascia was arrested by Delray Beach PD and Boca Raton PD for back-to-back DUIs in March. One arrest was on 3/26 and another on 3/27.

Arrest paperwork indicates that Mascia now lives with his mother in the Camelot Village, a  55+ community located across the street from Kings Point in Delray Beach.
