BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — 19-year-old Joshua Washington, of Town Place Gables in Boca Raton, is in jail this morning following his arrest for his involvement in a fatal DUI accident on November 21st, 2021.

According to a police report submitted by Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Joshua Washington, 19, of Town Place Gables in Boca Raton, was driving a 2016 Hyundai Genesis at a high rate of speed in poor weather conditions on November 21st, 2021 when he crashed into a tree near SW 18th Street and Barwood Lane.

Washington was allegedly driving too fast for the wet roadways and lost control of his vehicle crashing it into a tree. The impact of the collision was so strong, according to investigators, that the steering wheel was ejected from the vehicle and the engine breached the firewall.

After the collision, witnesses observed Washington as he got out of the vehicle, walked around for a few minutes, and then fled the scene. Witnesses reported that they could hear Washington on the phone with someone saying “Dude come get me I fucked up, I fucked up come get me”. Witnesses followed Washington as he attempted to flee and provided PBSO dispatchers with his current location. PBSO deputies responded and took Washington into custody.

The passenger in the front seat, Jacob Fajardo, was extricated from the front seat and transported to Delray Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. The two passengers in the back seats, Adrianna Moses and Gianna Loforte were both seriously injured as well.

The arrest affidavit is clear. It alleges that the reckless actions of Joshua Washington caused the death of passenger Jacob Fajardo, and traumatic injuries to passengers Adrianna Moses and Gianna LaForte. Washington fled the scene knowing that his passengers were seriously injured and/or deceased. Washington also suffered from severe injuries including a bleeding head injury, punctured right thigh, and potentially a lacerated spleen.

PBSO received the toxicology report on December 8th, 2021 which confirmed Washington was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana following the accident. A warrant was issued and Joshua Washington was arrested on 1/20/22. Washington is scheduled to have his first appearance this morning at 10:00 am.

Update

Washington has had his first appearance and the judge set his bond to $200k — $25k for each offense. The judge also ordered Washington has no contact with the family of the deceased, no contact with the witnesses, no illegal drugs, no alcohol, random drug testing, and if he makes bail he is ordered to in house arrest with GPS monitoring.

Not an isolated incident

Joshua Washington is no stranger to criminal traffic charges. In August of 2020, he was arrested for:

  • 812.014(2C6) GRAND THEFT AUTO
  • 316.1935(3) FLEEING AND ELUDING
  • 316.192(1A) TCATS RECKLESS DRIVING
  • 322.03(1) TCATS NO VALID DL
  • 843.02 RESIST W/O VIOLENCE

These charges all stemmed from an incident where he and an accomplice allegedly stole a car from a party they were at. In that incident, Washington crashed the stolen vehicle in to bushes near SW 18th street and 66th Ave after fleeing a PBSO deputy who was attempted to pull him over for speeding. The deputy disengaged the chase but then saw the vehicle crash. Deputies responded to the scene where both the driver and the passenger were arrested after a brief foot chase.
