CORAL SPRINGS, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — Parents are concerned after learning a former student was arrested at Coral Springs Charter School during a fire drill on Tuesday.

A message from the Coral Springs Police Department, in response to an arrest made at Coral Springs Charter School on Tuesday:

“**RUMOR CONTROL** At approximately 2pm on March 12, a former Coral Springs Charter School student was arrested by the School Resource Officer for trespassing on school property. This incident occurred during a fire drill. There were no weapons or threats made by the juvenile.

Message from Coral Springs Charter Principal Gary Springer:

We are so proud of our students for alerting adults, and for the quick actions of our safety team when a former student was located on campus without authorization. The individual was arrested and removed from campus within three minutes of his arrival. We will take all appropriate actions to continue to ensure the safety of our students.”

This message sent many parents and students into a tirade on social media, with many accusing the Police and school of a possible coverup.

While Principal Gary Springer reported that the student was removed from campus “within three minutes of his arrival”, outraged parents say that this is just not true, citing cell-phone videos exist proving the juvenile was actually on campus for 15 to 18 minutes, not 3. Some students even claim that officials took their phones and deleted videos they had of the incident.

Witnesses say that Principal Springer removed the student quickly after learning about his presence in the classroom. Parents say they are concerned about how the former-student got in the classroom as well as why he was able to be in the room for 15 minutes before the teacher was actually alerted. Concerned parents say that students told the teacher that the former-student did not belong there but the teacher “did nothing”. Fifteen minutes later is when the student was removed, according to parents and students.

Coral Springs Police later followed up with another comment, “The Coral Springs Police Department is working with school administrators to investigate this incident. As always, the safety and security of the school and its students and staff are our priorities.”.
