Layla Lewis Of Boca Raton Was Arrested For Aggravated Assault

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — A Valentines Day breakup led to several aggravated assault charges for an aggravated ex-girlfriend who rammed her car into her ex-boyfriend’s car on FAU campus several times.

According to an arrest affidavit submitted by FAU Police, campus police were dispatched to East University and Glades Road for a “domestic situation” that had occurred just after 1 PM on February 21st, 2023. The responding officer first saw two vehicles stopped in the roadway, a red Hyundai and a white Lexus SUV. An officer was talking to Layla Lewis behind her SUV.

The officer reports that at approximately 1230 hours, the ex-boyfriend pulled Into Garage 2 and drove to the 4th floor to park before his afternoon class. The ex-boyfriend said that he was sitting in the parking lot eating his lunch. He said that he had his front right passenger window down and his driver door open. While eating he said that he heard tires screeching and observed a white SUV pull behind him on the right passenger side. He said that he immediately recognized this vehicle to be that of Layla Lewis. He said that she jumped out of the vehicle and approached his car In a fast and aggressive manner. He said that as she made her way to the driver’s door, he closed the door and locked his vehicle. He said that she attempted to open his door but could not due to it being locked. He then said that she then attempted to open the rear left passenger door but could not open the door. He said that she became enraged and began yelling at him to open the door. He said that she then began banging on his driver-side window and pulling on his car door handle, breaking It.

The ex-boyfriend said that he was In fear for his safety and the well-being of his vehicle and began to slowly put the car in reverse. He said that he went slow to refrain from hitting her with the vehicle, but she grabbed onto the driver-side side view mirror and attempted to pull it off. He said that she let go and began to utter cursing words as she fell to the floor. He said that she Immediately got up and got In her vehicle. He said that she began to follow him at a high rate of speed. He said that he flagged bystanders down but claimed that he did not want to put the public In jeopardy. He said that he was traveling southbound on East University when the white SUV struck the rear of his red vehicle. He added that she apparently kept her foot on the gas and struck his vehicle four additional times. Each time the vehicle made contact, his neck bobbled back and forth causing discomfort and enhancing his fear for his life. He said that she struck him a couple of times before both vehicles came to a stop.

Lewis said she and the ex-boyfriend recently broke up and he told her that he wanted nothing to do with her. She said that she attempted to call him but could not get through. She said that she tried calling other people but could not reach him. She said that she knew his whereabouts from prior occasions, so she went to that location in hopes of speaking with him. She said that he had several of her belongings and she wanted to tell him something.

She said that when she arrived, she pulled up and parked on his passenger side. She said she got out of her vehicle and approached his driver’s side and told him something. She says that he then slammed the door and drove off, striking her, and causing her to fall to the ground.

Lewis admitted to the Police that she then followed him and rammed his vehicle several times to get him to stop.

Lewis was arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Lewis is now on PBSO In-House Arrest w/ GPS monitoring pending trial.
