According to deputies, after several 9-1-1 hang-ups, a minor victim was able to tell dispatchers that he was just punched off of his bicycle on Palmetto Circle near Yeshiva Tiferes Torah of Boca Raton. Another caller called in to report a man walking around aggressively and yelling in the area.

PBSO Deputies arrived in the area and were able to apprehend the suspect, Paul R. Kane, who was still at the scene within close proximity and a witness.

The boy told police he was riding his bicycle to school heading eastbound on Palmetto Cir N. on the sidewalk area. At the same time, an unknown white male, later identified as Paul Kane, was walking westbound. As the victim came close to Kane, he moved to the right side to give Kane room to walk. Instead of passing the boy, Kane moved into the victim’s way and told him the sidewalk was not a bike path.

Kane continually got close to the victim who was attempting to get off his bicycle. Kane then shoved the victim off his bicycle. Kane then punched the victim twice in the left side of his head, causing the boy’s earbud to fall out. The victim left his bicycle and ran westbound out of fear as it appeared that Kane was going to hit him again.

The victim says he saw Kane with his bicycle walking or carrying it eastbound. An eyewitness pulled up onto the grassy area and managed to call Kane over and keep him talking there until PBSO arrived.

Deputies detained Kane, determined the crime, and ultimately detained Kane. Deputies say that Kane began to repeatedly hit his head on the plastic partition of the rear area of the patrol vehicle. He was removed from the rear of the patrol car for his own safety. Kane was still kicking and yelling profanities and refused to calm down.

PBCFR administered a sedative to calm Kane down before he was taken to DCH for treatment due to his irrational & violent behavior

The boy said he had a hard time talking to 9-1-1 dispatchers because Kane had knocked an earbud out of his left ear. The boy had some redness to the left side of his face and stated his head hurt.

Paul Kane was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 4:12 PM on Tuesday, August 30th, 2022.
