Boca Raton’s Miguel Oduardo Arrested For DUI Manslaughter For November 2021 Crash

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — The Boca Raton Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash involving a fatality in November of 2021 and has since arrested Miguel Oduardo for DUI manslaughter.

On scene, officers found 39-year-old Eric Brown, of Boca Raton, a motorcyclist involved in the multi-vehicle accident. Brown was immediately transported to Delray Medical Center as a trauma alert where he was later pronounced deceased. A witness says that she observed Oduardo turn his Tundra in front of Brown while he was traveling westbound on Yamato road. Brown was ejected from his motorcycle before another vehicle then crashed into it.

Responding officers say that when they spoke to Oduardo at the scene, he stated that he was headed home so he made a left turn at a slow speed to go northbound on NW 5th Ave. Oduardo stated that he did not see any vehicles or headlights coming westbound, so he proceeded to make the left turn and then Brown’s motorcycle struck the passenger side of Oduardo’a Tundra. After the crash, Oduardo then called his wife who responded to the scene. Oduardo stated that he had a couple of beers prior to the crash.

Oduardo stated that he had been working all day at a construction site in West Boca Raton and then went to his friend’s house in Boca Raton. Oduardo stated that he had two Corona beers at his friend’s house in Boca Raton and then he proceeded to drive home. Officers say that Oduardo’s eyes were unusually “red and glassy”, his speech was slurred, and he had a strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath when he opened his mouth to speak to them.

Oduardo later consented to a blood draw and DNA test which later confirmed he was under the influence at the time of the accident and that his DNA, not that of his wife, was on the steering wheel of his truck.

10 months later, Oduardo has been arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter on Wednesday, September 21st, 2022. Oduardo is currently in the custody of the PBSO jail with a bond set at $50,000. At his first appearance, the judge ordered that he have no contact with the victim’s family and banned him from driving.
