Boca Raton Attorney Arrested For Dui
BOCA RATON, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — A Boca Raton woman is facing DUI and Resisting arrest charges, according to jail records released to Boca Post by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
A young female lawyer from Boca Raton was arrested by the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office. Boca Post has been notified that the charges filed include “316.193(4) TCATS DUI-OVER .150” and “843.02 RESIST OFFICER WITHOUT VIOLENCE”
According to an affidavit submitted by Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, the attorney was arrested near Atlantic Avenue and SR-7/US-441 on Wednesday evening at approximately 10:30 PM.
Another motorist, who was behind the woman on Atlantic Avenue, reports that he sounded his horn several times, when the white Lexus SUV the woman was driving, did not travel when the red light turned green. The concerned motorist then noticed the woman was passed out over the steering wheel. The motorist then exited his vehicle and attempted to get the woman’s attention. The motorist reported that the ignition was on and the music was really loud, however, the woman was unresponsive.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene to find the woman with bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Deputies suspected the woman was under the influence and a DUI investigation begins.
The woman reportedly repeated herself saying that she couldn’t believe she was passed out behind the wheel. The woman told deputies she was in downtown Delray Beach for dinner. The woman also said she was at the beach earlier. The woman told deputies she had two alcoholic beverages at dinner.
The woman was then given a field sobriety test, which she failed.
While deputies attempted to arrest the woman, she became very argumentative. Deputies say they asked her several times to get into the patrol car after being handcuffed to which she refused, telling deputies “I’m not going anywhere”. Once she was finally placed in the car, deputies say the woman slipped out of her handcuffs so they had to stop and then place her into zip ties.
The woman later blew a .194 BAC, which is almost 2.5 times the legal limit of .08. For that reason, she was charged with the escalated DUI charge of “316.193(4) TCATS DUI-OVER .150”.
The woman was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 3:30 on Thursday morning. Court records indicate the woman has been released without bond. The woman has an arrangement set for July.
A video of this arrest was published on YouTube, which garnished thousands of views. Many people commented on how poorly this young woman, a professional attorney, acted while in the backseat of a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office patrol car. At some point, the woman told the arresting deputy that she “hopes he is one of those cops that gets shot”.
The woman’s attorney has told Boca Post that there is a lot more to the story which explains her behavior in the video. Her attorney told us that the woman was meeting a friend to grab a bite to eat. The woman and her friend decided to see a live band play and she ordered one drink which she sat down on the tabletop and reportedly left the drink unattended. She then proceeded to only drink half of the beverage and felt extremely tired so she decided to leave. She strongly feels that while her drink was left unattended, a man who kept making inappropriate remarks to her, slipped something into her drink. According to her lawyer, when she woke up at the wheel she had no recollection of what had happened. This is reportedly why she was extremely confused which would explain her erratic behavior in the video.
The young woman’s lawyer says they are extremely worried for her safety and well-being and want to make that a priority. She has received threats through phone calls and her online lawyer page. Her law office has received threatening phone calls and so has her boss. She has also filed a police report because she fears leaving her own home and her office, claiming she is being stalked and harassed.
Boca Post has learned that the woman’s DUI charge has since been no-filed by the office of Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg. The woman has since only been charged with reckless driving for her actions. The enhanced DUI charge, received for blowing 2.5 times the legal limit, was dropped. The resisting charge, received for removing herself from her handcuffs, was also dropped.
Note, we redacted the young lawyer’s name due to allegations made by her lawyer that this article posed a threat to her safety.
