BSO Located And Arrested Hit-And-Run Driver That Sent 2 Deputies And 1 Other To The Hospital. Allen Gregory Da Costa Is In Custody.

UPDATE – 9 PM

Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that they have located and arrested the man responsible for the hit-and-run accident that injured two deputies and a civilian on Saturday night.

The suspect has been identified as 49-year-old Allen Gregory Da Costa. BSO says that its Crime Suppression Team of Lauderdale Lakes District is responsible for the arrest.

Da Costa has been charged with the following:

  • 3 counts of Leaving the scene of a crash involving injury
  • 3 counts of Leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage
  • Driving while license is suspended

Da Costa is currently in the custody of the BSO jail. As previously reported by Boca Post, both deputies and a third person have since been released from the hospital and are recovering.

UPDATE – 1 PM

Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that the 2 deputies and 1 civilian injured in the hit and run accident have since been released from the hospital and are recovering from their injuries.

Detectives are still investigating and attempting to identify the driver responsible for the hit-and-run accident.

LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL (Boca Post) — The driver of a GMC pickup truck ran a red light and slammed into a marked Broward Sheriff’s Office patrol car and another vehicle sending 3 to the hospital.

From Broward Sheriff’s Office:

At approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, Broward Regional Communications received a report of a rollover crash involving a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy in the area of Northwest 31st Avenue and Northwest 26th Street in Lauderdale Lakes. BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the driver of a red GMC pickup truck ran a red light and struck a marked BSO unit that had two deputies inside. A civilian vehicle was also struck in the crash and rolled over. Following the crash, the driver of the red pickup truck fled the scene on foot.

BSO’s Aviation Unit transported one of the deputies to an area hospital. The other deputy and civilian driver were taken to the hospital by ground. At this time, all three individuals are believed to have injuries that are not expected to be life-threatening.

Detectives with BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit are on the scene investigating the circumstances of the crash.

At this time, north and southbound lanes of Northwest 31st Avenue are shut down between Northwest 19th Street and Oakland Park Boulevard. Lanes are also shut down east and west in the area of Northwest 26th Street.
