Fireworks Accident: Man Loses Hand South Of Boca Raton

LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL (Boca Post) — Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that they responded to a medical call that originated with a fireworks accident involving a man who severely injured his hand.

With the 4th Of July only a few days away, some people are already setting off fireworks in the area. Even though it is against the law to set off fireworks outside of the designated holidays, that doesn’t stop some people.

One man, in Lauderdale Lakes, was doing just that, when he severely injured himself. The man apparently blew off his entire hand.

Broward Sheriff’s Office provided Boca Post with the following statement:

Shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, Broward Regional Communications received a medical call regarding an incident involving a firework in the 4400 block of North State Road 7 in unincorporated Central Broward. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene. The victim had already traveled to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle. BSFR transported the man’s hand to the hospital and subsequently transported the man and his hand to Broward Health Medical Center for medical treatment.

It is unclear what type of fireworks that were being used or if they were being used as directed at this time.
