This year, there have been more people visiting compared to previous years, leading to some disruptions and altercations. The police swiftly intervened in these situations and managed to disperse the crowds without any problems. Police say they have made a total of 13 arrests related to spring break activities since the beginning of March. Here is a breakdown of those arrests and some details about spring break arrests from last year (2023):

  • On 3/4, one spring breaker received a Notice to Appear for Disorderly Conduct.
  • On 3/5, there was one arrest for Disorderly Conduct involving a spring breaker.
  • On 3/7, four individuals were arrested for drug related offenses (local residents).
  • On 3/8, two people from Miami were arrested for cell phone thefts downtown.
  • On 3/9, one person not associated with spring break was arrested for cell phone thefts downtown.
  • On 3/12, a local resident was arrested on four counts of battery on law enforcement officers.
  • On 3/16, two locals were arrested for disturbance and trespassing.
  • On 3/17 and 3/18, individuals were separately arrested by the FLPD Motor Unit for drug and traffic related offenses (local residents).
  • On 3/19 and 3/20, there was another Notice to Appear for Trespassing and an arrest by the FLPD Motor Unit for a traffic related offense (both locals).

This is double compared to last year (2023) when officers only made 8 arrests, including  7 locals and 1 involving an actual Spring Break visitor.

A reminder regarding Spring Break in 2024 states that as part of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s proactive measures during this period, there has been an increased police presence along Fort Lauderdale Beach and in the downtown entertainment district throughout March.
