FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — The City of Fort Lauderdale loses $1.2M after an employee fell for phishing scam.

According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, investigators are looking into a fraud that costed the city $1.2 Million dollars.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is currently investigating an incident where the City of Fort Lauderdale fell victim to a phishing scam. On Thursday September 14th the city made a payment of $1.2 million believing it to be a bill, from Moss Construction. However it was later discovered that the payment request was actually fraudulent. This investigation is actively ongoing. We are collaborating with law enforcement agencies to determine the exact nature of what transpired.

During this time we would like to take the opportunity to remind our community about the importance of exercising caution when fulfilling payment requests and remaining vigilant and aware of scams.
