DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — The Traffic Homicide Unit of the Broward Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a collision that resulted in the death of a pedestrian on January 20th in Deerfield Beach.

Just after midnight on Saturday, January 20th, 2024, detectives from the BSO Traffic Homicide Unit and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to an incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the vicinity of the 200 block of North Federal Highway. Upon arrival, deputies found the pedestrian on the road. Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene.

Based on initial findings, it was determined that Lau was driving a black 2016 Cadillac CTS heading southbound on North Federal Highway near Northeast Second Avenue intersection. The pedestrian was trying to cross the southbound lanes of North Federal Highway when they entered into the path of Lau’s approaching vehicle.

According to investigators, as a result of this collision, the pedestrian struck and landed on the windshield before finally coming to rest on the road surface. Meanwhile, Lau brought his Cadillac to a controlled stop and parked it in a nearby parking lot. He cooperated fully with law enforcement officials during their investigation.

There was actually a marked crosswalk with pedestrian crossing signals located northwards from where this incident occurred. The investigation is still ongoing.
