DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that 78-year-old Wladyslawa Poplawska was killed while crossing the street in the Century Village community in Deerfield Beach on Saturday morning.

Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating a crash that killed a 78-year-old woman in Deerfield Beach.

According to detectives, at approximately 8:01 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 27, a vehicle versus pedestrian crash occurred within Century Village at the intersection of Newport Drive and West Drive in Deerfield Beach. At the time, Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue transported the pedestrian to a local hospital listed in stable condition.

The investigation revealed the driver of a 2020 Silver Ford F150 pickup truck was traveling eastbound on West Drive and stopped at the stop sign. As the driver proceeded through the intersection, the pedestrian was walking within the marked crosswalk attempting to cross the roadway from north to south when she was struck by the pickup truck. The driver stopped immediately, remained on the scene, and cooperated with the investigation.
During the pedestrian’s treatment, her condition deteriorated ultimately resulting in her death on Sunday, Aug. 28, at the hospital. The investigation is pending.
