CORAL SPRINGS, FL (Boca Post) — The Coral Springs Police Department says a Texas teenager has been arrested for maliciously placing a 9-1-1 call to report a gun on the campus of Coral Springs, FL.

On February 23rd, 2022, dispatchers received a call from a teenager who said he was a student at J.P. Taravella and wanted to report an individual with a gun on the campus. Of course, CSPD took the threat seriously and immediately responded, forcing the school into a CODE RED lockdown.

After a room-to-room search was completed, the student who was reported to have been in possession of a firearm was searched and detained. No firearm was located on the student or on the campus.

Police later determined that call was false and intended to “create chaos and maliciously harass the student”, according to Police. Detectives were able to identify the author of videos found on social media that detectives say confirmed the suspicion that the false complaint was maliciously placed to harass the student.

The student who placed the false report was determined to be in Irving, Texas. CSPD detectives worked with the Irving Police Department to ultimately identify and arrest the teenager responsible for placing the call.
