PLANTATION, FL (Boca Post) — A volunteer basketball coach for Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines has been arrested for bringing a firearm to rival Plantation’s campus.

Shakeen Morgan, 33, was arrested for possession of a firearm on school property on Thursday, January 13th, 2022.

Morgan is the 2nd basketball coach from Flanagan High School to be arrested this year. Only a week prior to Morgan’s arrest, Philip Velez, assistant basketball coach and Flanagan High School teacher was arrested for having sex with a 17 year old student.

Paula Peters, Principal of Flanagan High School provided a statement on Friday, January 14th, 2022:

Flanagan High School Principal Paula Peters told families on Friday, “following a basketball game at another District school last night, a volunteer assistant coach for Flanagan’s team was arrested after a weapon was discovered and confiscated. I am not able to provide additional information but want to assure you that this incident did not involve any threats to either school. Safety is always our highest priority, and we encourage everyone – if you see something, say something.”

Morgan was released from BSO jail on $3,500 bond.
