MARGATE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A March fight at a Margate towing company has now led to at least two arrests, with police accusing one employee of beating a customer and another of pulling a gun during the same confrontation.
According to Margate Police Department arrest reports, the incident happened March 19 at Emergency Towing in Margate, where investigators say a verbal dispute between a customer and employees escalated into a violent group attack in front of multiple workers.
Police first arrested Remington Read, 30, on April 10. Investigators say Read worked at Emergency Towing at the time of the altercation and was directly involved in the attack. Hunter Quesnel, 27, of Margate, was arrested a day earlier, on April 9, and is facing felony charges tied to the same case.
The investigation centers on what detectives say was captured on surveillance video outside the business. According to Read’s arrest affidavit, the customer became involved in an argument with Read and other employees before the fight turned physical.
Detectives say video shows Read grab the victim and begin striking him repeatedly. The affidavit states that after the first scuffle was broken up, the violence started again. Investigators say Read approached the victim from behind, struck him again, and then joined in a group assault while the man was on the ground. Police say the victim was punched and kicked during that attack.
The victim suffered significant injuries, according to the affidavit, including broken teeth.
Investigators also accuse Read of trying to destroy evidence after the fight. Police say he picked up the victim’s iPhone from the ground and carried it inside the business, then went into a bathroom and struck the phone against a hard surface, cracking the screen, before returning it.
The affidavit also alleges Read tried to interfere with the investigation as detectives arrived. Police say he instructed another employee to disable the surveillance camera system. When questioned later, Read provided a sworn statement saying the cameras were not working at the time of the incident, according to the report. Detectives say that statement was false and contradicted by video they later obtained through a search warrant.
According to the affidavit, additional footage showed employees discussing the cameras and suggesting they be turned off again, which investigators say supports the allegation that evidence was being concealed.
Quesnel’s arrest added another layer to the case. According to Margate police, he is charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators say his role in the confrontation included both physical violence and the use of a firearm.
Police allege Quesnel repeatedly struck the victim during the attack and contributed to the injuries, including a broken molar. Investigators also say Quesnel pulled a gun from his waistband during the confrontation, escalating the fight well beyond a routine business dispute.
According to the warrant, the assault, including the moment police say Quesnel displayed the firearm, was recorded on surveillance footage that employees later tried to hide, destroy, or keep from investigators.
The March 19 attack happened in front of multiple employees at the towing business, and police have not said whether more arrests are coming. Detectives have said the investigation remains active as they continue reviewing the actions of everyone involved.
For now, both men have been booked into the Broward County Main Jail and released on bond. Read posted a $35,500 bond. Quesnel posted a $25,500 bond.
The case remains open, and Margate police have not indicated whether additional suspects could face charges.
