In case of floods or heavy rainfall, in South Florida or any part of the state the newly established High Water Response Task Force of the Broward Sheriff’s Office is equipped and ready to take action. The team consists of divers. Including both males and females. From BSO’s Department of Preparedness and Response as well as Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue department.They have been participating in training sessions this week to enhance their abilities and obtain swiftwater rescue certification.On Thursday morning a substantial number of task force members put on their safety gear. Assembled their gear, for practicing in the ocean waves near Pompano Beach. During a practical session on Thursday the team engaged in various water rescue exercises to improve stamina and assess their physical fitness for this demanding role. In a scenario three people simulated being stranded in floodwater. Three pairs of rescuers swam to the individuals secured them safely. Then returned to dry land. Additionally other rescue teams stationed on the shore threw ropes to the rescuers. Pulled them back, to safety. BSOs Task Force training focuses on impart these skills and techniques to save people stuck in their vehicles or homes during floods or in waterlogged scenarios where rescue teams need to reach by boat or, on foot.” The core motivation driving every responder is their desire to support the community.””This group consists of men and women who’re committed to being present in times of difficulty when people are at their most vulnerable. Deputy Alexander Beer, from BSO shared that they willingly enter situations despite the risks involved to offer their best services and assistance.”After heavy rain hit the Fort Lauderdale Dania Beach region in April 2023 and led to flooding and destruction with over 20 inches of rainfall recorded in the area; the BSOs High Water Response Task Force was established in response, to the situation.
