The Broward Sheriffs Office Traffic Homicide Unit is currently looking into an incident in Oakland Park that resulted in a pedestrians death on Saturday evening around 8;20 p.m. April 12th. Reports indicate that Broward County Regional Communications were alerted to a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian along Northwest 31st Avenue in the 4300 block, at that time.BSO deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue promptly arrived at the location to address the situation. The initial inquiry found that the person driving a 2018 Mercedes C300 was heading north on Northwest 31st Avenue when a pedestrian named Shannell Smith crossed the street eastward in the middle of the block without using a designated crosswalk and was hit by the Mercedes driven by Ethan Dargon who promptly stopped to check on Smith before pulling over in a parking lot and waiting for law enforcement to arrive on the scene where paramedics sadly confirmed Smiths passing. The crash is still, under investigation. It appears that neither speeding nor driver impairment played a role in the accident.
