BSO Deputy Anderson Jean Arrested

BROWARD COUNTY, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — A BSO deputy traded his green uniform for a striped one after being caught smuggling contraband into the Broward County Jail.

A detention deputy from the Broward Sheriff’s Office is facing allegations of collaborating with an inmate and the inmate’s spouse to smuggle banned items, such as drugs, into a jail in Broward County.

In June, the Department of Detention (DOD) at BSO initiated an investigation into the introduction of contraband at the Paul Rein Detention Facility. The investigation uncovered evidence that an inmate named Adrian Whipple (born on January 15, 1985) was involved in selling vape pens, marijuana, molly and cigarettes to other inmates. Deputy Anderson Jean was identified as the individual supplying these items to Whipple.

In July, DOD sought assistance from the Public Corruption Unit (PCU) for further investigation. The inquiry revealed a series of CashApp payments made by Whipple’s wife to Deputy Jean ranging in amounts from $20 to $500. Phone call records from jail also indicated that Whipple instructed his wife to send money to Jean. In September, a vape pen was found on Deputy Jean while he was inside the facility. During questioning, Jean confessed to providing contraband, including drugs, to Whipple in exchange for money.

Following this discovery, Deputy Jean was suspended with pay by BSO pending further investigation. In December, during interviews with detectives, Whipple admitted that he had approached Jean earlier in the year and proposed engaging in this illicit activity. According to Whipple’s statement, when off duty, Jean would meet with Whipple’s wife and acquire molly.

Afterward, Jean would bring in the illegal substance into the jail and hand it over to Whipple. Whipple then proceeded to sell the forbidden substance within the facility.

Jean got arrested on two charges of smuggling prohibited items into a detention facility, one charge of receiving unlawful compensation and one charge of attempting to engage in criminal solicitation. Meanwhile, Whipple, who was already in custody, now faces an additional charge of smuggling contraband into a detention facility.

Jean joined BSO (Broward Sheriff’s Office) in November 2020. Following his arrest on Friday, Jean’s employment status changed from being suspended with pay to being suspended without pay. He was then taken into custody at the Broward County Mail Jail.

Deputy Jean has traded his green uniform in for a striped one while he faces the following charges:

  • (FSS 838.016) Unlaw Compensation Reward Official Behavior
  • 2 counts of (FSS 951.22) Introduce Contraband Into Detention Facility
  • (FSS 777.04-4e) Criminal Attempt Solicit Conspire 3rd Deg Felony
