Bso Detectives Arrest Driver In Fatal September Crash

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit (THUI detectives detained an Oakland Park resident for his involvement in a collision that occurred in September and resulted in the death of a man. At approximately 9;23 a.m on September 17th. Broward County Regional Communications was notified of a car crash with injuries taking place within the 1500 block of East Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach.null The deputies, from BSOs Pompano Beach District and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue promptly responded to the scene.null Additionally Broward Sheriff’s Offices THUI was called to investigate the crash circumstances. The initial inquiry found out that William Windhurst was behind the wheel of a 2023 Toyota Camry heading east on East Atlantic Boulevard nearing the junction of Northeast 15th Avenue. Windhurst moved into the left turn lane with plans to head north on Northeast 15th Avenue. While Windhurst was, in the process of making the turn to head north on Northeast 15th Avenue a 2022 BMW M4 coupe driven by Angelo Ragonese was speeding and crashed into the Camry in a T bone collision. The collisions impact was so strong that it caused the Toyota to crash into a Truist Bank building. Paramedics took the occupants of both vehicles to Broward Health North for treatment. Unfortunately due to the severity of his injuries from the accident and despite being transferred to a hospice facility, on Windhurst passed away on September 19. According to the investigation carried out by BSO’s THI detectives it was determined that Ragoneses impaired driving and excessive speed were major factors contributing to the crash. It was found that the BMW was traveling at around 80 miles per hour when the accident occurred and had reached a speed of 124 miles per hour just before the crash happened. Toxicology reports indicated that Ragonese had tested positive for cocaine. On Monday the 20th of January Ragonese was taken into custody by detectives, on charges including DUI Manslaughter,Vehicular Homicide and Abusing a Child Without Causing Serious Harm.He was then taken to Broward County Main Jail.
