On April 11th in the year 2025 is when it all happened – you can watch the video without captions by clicking on the link HERE provided for you by The Broward Sheriff’s Office Special Events and Logistics Unit in collaboration with Becca’s Closet to bring free prom dresses to students from Blanche Ely and Boyd Anderson High Schools. They organized surprise events at the schools on April 1st and April 4th to help girls facing challenges have a chance to choose their dream dress, for prom night – an opportunity they might otherwise miss out on! “The collaboration between BSO and Beccas Closet began when I learned that they needed to relocate from The Festival Flea Market ” shared Major Audrey Jones with enthusiasm.”We proposed the concept of a pop up gathering to the schools. Received a positive response.” Beccas Closet was founded in 2003 as an organization dedicated to offering complimentary prom dresses and donating prom tickets as well as awarding $25K in scholarships for post secondary education to students, across the country. The non profit organization was founded by Jay and Pam Kirtman in memory of their daughter Rebecca Kirtmans initiative at Nova High School, in Davie when she was a freshman. “She initiated this project so that all her classmates could celebrate together ” explained Pam. “It was an idea. Ensuring inclusivity in an event that holds significant importance during high school.” Rebecca—fondly called Becca and Bec—had a way of uniting people through her kind spirit and generosity that touched many hearts around her circle. She was responsible for gathering and giving away over 250 dresses to young girls in South Florida before her untimely demise in August 2003 due, to a car crash.”This world can be cruel ” remarked Major Jones sadly.”But as Maya Angelo put it well…Becca embraced her self and shared her kindness with the world despite its harshness—a feat echoed by her parents through their actions.” The upcoming event at Beccas Closet marks the end of this season at its site after more than two decades of service before relocating in the near future for continued operations and impact. To discover more, about this organization or offer your support in any way possible Visit www.beccascloset.org.
