BOYNTON BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Two new multi-sport synthetic turf fields are now open at West Boynton Park, giving Palm Beach County residents another year-round option for games, tournaments and recreational programming.
County officials and members of the West Boynton community celebrated the project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the evening of Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The fields were converted from natural grass to synthetic turf, a change county parks officials say will allow the park to handle more consistent use and return to play faster after rain.
The project is part of Palm Beach County’s broader investment in public recreation facilities. West Boynton Park serves residents in the Boynton Beach-area community and visitors who use county parks for athletics, organized sports and community events.
“This project reflects our continued commitment to providing high-quality, accessible recreational spaces for the community,” said Jennifer Cirillo, director of Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation. “The new multi-sport turf fields at West Boynton Park allows us to expand programming, accommodate more games and events, and ensure residents have reliable, year-round access to safe and well-maintained athletic facilities. It’s an investment in both active lifestyles and the overall quality of life in Palm Beach County.”
The biggest operational change is field availability.
Natural grass athletic fields typically require an annual 10-week renovation period, according to the county. During that time, fields may be taken out of rotation for maintenance, repair and recovery. Synthetic turf does not require that same annual renovation window, allowing Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation to schedule more activity throughout the year.
That matters in West Boynton, where public athletic field space can be in demand for youth sports, leagues, practices, tournaments and community events. The new turf fields are designed to expand athletic programming and improve access to high-quality facilities for residents and visitors.
The county also cited improved drainage as one of the benefits of the new surface. In South Florida, where afternoon storms can quickly affect outdoor schedules, the ability to return to play faster after rain can make a difference for teams, families and event organizers.
The synthetic turf conversion is also expected to reduce annual maintenance costs. Grass fields require mowing, irrigation, renovation and ongoing recovery time. Turf fields still require upkeep, but they can be used more heavily and more consistently, especially when weather and field wear would otherwise limit play.
With the two new fields now available, West Boynton Park can host more games, tournaments and large-scale athletic events. The county said the project enhances recreational opportunities for both residents and visitors in the community.
For families and athletes who use the park, the opening means more dependable field access and more flexibility for sports scheduling. For Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation, it gives the department more capacity at a public park already serving one of the county’s busy suburban communities.
The new fields are now part of the county park system’s athletic inventory. Residents should watch for expanded programming, additional games and future events at West Boynton Park as the turf fields are brought into regular use.
