BOYNTON BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — A Boynton Beach man is accused of molesting the 3-year-old daughter of a long-time friend of his.

Joseph Labarbera, 61, of Stonehenge Circle in Boynton Beach, is currently in jail following his arrest on Saturday, April 2nd, 2022. According to an arrest affidavit, Labarbera exposed himself to a 3-year-old and asked her to touch his penis.

The 3-year-old girl and her family were celebrating the girl’s birthday at the apartment in Arium Boynton Beach. The girl and her friend were playing in her room when the adults were outside. The girl’s mother reports that ‘something in her mind just told her to come in and check on the children. The girl’s mother says she saw Labarbera in the girl’s room with his pants down and a small toy around his erected penis. She cursed at Labarbera and told him to get out of her apartment.

The girl told deputies that Labarbera told her to ‘touch it’. When asked what ‘it’ was the girl specified ‘his private part’. The girl admitted that she did touch it.

Deputies then interviewed Labarbera who was said to be ‘confused about everything’. Labarbera said he was playing with the girl and throwing her up and down as he played. Labarbera said he was accused of exposing himself when he did not. Labarbera said it is normal for him to play with the girls in the room alone. Labarbera began to cry when asked why his friend of 10-15 years would say this about him.

PBSO deputies report that they contacted DCF but a representative did not respond.

Labarbera is currently in PBSO custody with a $50,000 bond while facing the following charges:

  • 1 count of 800.04(5AB) LEWD OR LASCIVIOUS MOLESTATION
  • 2 counts of 800.04(7AB) LEWD OR LASCIVIOUS EXHIBITION
