‘He Pulled the Trigger’

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — New details describe the hours before the death of rapper POORSTACY, born Carlito Milfort Jr., who died Saturday after what investigators describe as a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a room at the Quality Inn on North Federal Highway.

The 26-year-old artist, known for blending emo-rap, punk, and metal influences, had been staying at the hotel for about a week with a woman and a child, according to an earlier statement from hotel staff.

Boca Raton Police have been notoriously close lipped about the situation and have only described the case as an “incident”, as Boca Post reported first.

The newly filed probable cause affidavit shows Nicole Grikstas, 24, was arrested for child neglect without great bodily harm after detectives say the couple’s toddler was inside the room while drugs, paraphernalia, and a loaded handgun were present. Grikstas told officers that Milfort and her had a “on and off relationship” for “several years”.

According to Police, first arrived around 6 a.m. Saturday for a reported attempted suicide inside Room 124. They found Milfort on a bed “holding a black Taurus G3C handgun” with “agonal breathing,” according to the document.

Paramedics took him to Delray Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased. Officials have not released a final cause of death.

According to the report, Grikstas told investigators she and Milfort had been awake all night arguing after returning from a family Thanksgiving gathering. She said both had used cocaine, MDMA and Percocet throughout the night, adding that her own drug use made the sequence of events difficult to recall. She also said Milfort had been behaving erratically, accusing her of hiding his drugs before he began hitting her. Detectives noted bruising on both sides of her face, her right thigh, and her thumb.

At one point, she said Milfort grabbed a handgun from a Louis Vuitton bag, waved it around, and threatened to harm her and himself. The affidavit says he at times held the gun to his own head and may have attempted to stream the disturbance on Instagram Live. She told police that after asking why she was smirking, Milfort placed the firearm to his head and pulled the trigger.

Inside the room, detectives documented narcotics residue in baggies that later tested positive for cocaine, loose pills, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a spent casing. A second loaded Taurus handgun was found at the foot of one bed. A toddler had been sleeping in the room through the night, according to the report. Officers wrote that the child had been exposed to narcotics, paraphernalia, violence, and a loaded firearm that was repeatedly handled.

Grikstas told police she never attempted to leave the room with the child or separate him from the environment. Detectives concluded the circumstances met the threshold for child neglect under state law. She was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail.

Milfort’s death triggered widespread grief among fans. Known as POORSTACY, he released two studio albums, gained national attention with a track on the Bill & Ted Face the Music soundtrack, and collaborated heavily with Travis Barker on songs such as “Choose Life.” Social media has filled with tributes and calls for clarity as police continue their investigation.

This remains an active case. Authorities have not announced any other charges at this time.
