Jaime Josue Gomez Escobedo Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison

UPDATE

On 04/16/2024, the defendant, Gomez (D-1), pled guilty to the charge(s) of DUI Manslaughter (two counts), and Driving Under The Influence Causing Serious Bodily Injury. The defendant was adjudicated guilty.

The sentence imposed was 12 year(s) State prison. The sentence includes, but may not be limited to, the following special conditions: Restitution has been reserved.

PBSO tells Boca Post that an arrest has been made in the deadly West Boca Raton crash that left two dead in February.

According to PBSO, on 4/11/2023 at approximately 2:30 p.m., and with the assistance of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Warrants Unit, Jamie Josue Gomez Escobedo (D-1) was arrested and charged with violation of the following Florida State Statutes:

  • Count 1- DUI Manslaughter, Florida State Statute 316.193 (3)(a)(b)(c)(3)(a)(4), a 2nd-degree felony
  • Count 2- DUI Manslaughter, Florida State Statute 316.193 (3)(a)(b)(c)(3)(a)(4), a 2nd-degree felony
  • Count 3- Driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury, Florida State Statue, 316.193 (3)(a)(b)(c)(2), a 3rd-degree felony

2 Killed In Deadly West Boca Raton Crash

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that they are investigating an accident involving 2 fatalities that occurred in unincorporated Boca Raton on Wednesday morning.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that at approximately 10:31 AM on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023, deputies responded to the area of US-441 and Kimberly Road in unincorporated Boca Raton in reference to a vehicle accident.

According to PBSO, Jamie Josue Gomez Escobedo was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound within the outside lane of US 441 South, approaching the intersection of Kimberly Road.

At the same time, a Nissan Rogue was lawfully traveling westbound on Kimberly Road, attempting to traverse the intersection of US 441 South, under a green traffic signal.

As the Rogue entered the intersection, Escobedo ran the red traffic signal for southbound traffic and subsequently collided with the Rogue. During the collision, the front of the Jeep violently impacted the passenger side of the Rogue.

Post impact, the Rogue was redirected in a southwesterly direction while rolling over violently before coming to final rest upside down on the southwest corner of the intersection.

Post impact, the Jeep was redirected in a southwesterly direction, while rotating in a clockwise manner before coming to final rest within the southbound lanes of the intersection of US 441 South and Kimberly Road.

As a result of the collision, the driver and one occupant of the Rogue succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased on the scene by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. Another occupant of the Rogue was transported to Delray Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

PBSO has indicated that charges are pending and noted that they suspect Escobedo may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
