BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — Boca Raton residents will have their first chance to hear directly from city officials about the proposed $175 million Police Headquarters bond during a public information session scheduled for Monday, November 3, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Spanish River Library, second-floor mezzanine.
The event, announced by the City of Boca Raton, is designed to give voters a clear understanding of the proposed new Police Department Headquarters, the financing behind it, and what approval of the general obligation bond would mean for taxpayers.
Officials say the meeting will walk residents through the background, project details, and financial plan tied to the March 10, 2026, ballot measure, where voters will decide whether to fund construction of a new police complex near Spanish River Boulevard and I-95.
City leaders—including City Manager George Brown, Deputy City Manager and CFO Jim Zervis, and Police Chief Michele Miuccio—are expected to outline why they believe replacing the current 1986-built headquarters is critical to maintaining Boca Raton’s public safety standards.
The proposed bond would fund the bulk of a $190.2 million project, creating a hurricane-rated, modern facility designed to meet the city’s law enforcement needs for decades. The average property tax impact is estimated at 0.2605 mills, or about $123.74 per year for the average homeowner. Even with the increase, city staff note that Boca Raton’s total tax rate would remain below that of comparable cities.
The city’s presentation materials describe the current headquarters on NW Boca Raton Boulevard as “outdated” and “beyond its useful life,” with space constraints that have forced police operations into seven separate facilities. The proposed site near Spanish River would consolidate those functions into a single campus built to withstand hurricanes and allow for future growth.
Voters will ultimately decide the issue during the March 10, 2026 municipal election, when the following ballot question will appear:
Shall the City issue general obligation bonds, in one or more series, to finance the construction and equipping of a new police department headquarters, and related public safety support facilities located within the City in the principal amount not to exceed $175,000,000…?
Residents attending Monday’s session will have an opportunity to ask questions and review project renderings and cost projections firsthand.
For those who want to make an informed decision ahead of the March vote, this will be the city’s first public event focused entirely on the bond proposal and its long-term implications.
