BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Boca Raton will run mostly sunny and warm today with a high near 80, and only a slight chance of a quick shower late morning into early afternoon. Winds stay light to moderate out of the east, keeping the beach breeze comfortable but also supporting a rip current risk. Tonight is mostly clear and mild, near 69. Saturday stays warm, but shower chances begin to tick up late day, setting the stage for a wetter, much windier Sunday

South Florida is still under the influence of a broad “fair weather” pattern aloft today, which is why skies trend mostly sunny and rain coverage stays limited. The National Weather Service notes that while the air higher up is helping keep clouds from growing tall, a slow increase in low-level moisture is underway.

That’s the ingredient that could squeeze out an isolated shower along the east coast late this morning into early afternoon, even with plenty of sun. The bigger story is what happens as we head into the weekend.

A front approaching from the northeast will weaken the local high pressure and tighten the pressure difference over our area. In plain terms: winds ramp up, especially Saturday afternoon and Saturday night, and the atmosphere becomes more favorable for periods of showers.

For Boca Raton, Saturday still looks mostly sunny much of the day, but a few showers (and a stray thunderstorm) become more possible late afternoon and evening. By Saturday night into Sunday, the front pushes into South Florida and the onshore flow strengthens sharply.

Boaters and beachgoers should plan for a sharp deterioration in Atlantic conditions this weekend. Today brings east winds near 10 knots with seas around 2 to 3 feet, but winds increase Saturday afternoon and turn northeast.

By Saturday night, northeast winds strengthen to 20–30 knots and seas build quickly, reaching 5–8 feet offshore (higher at times). Sunday looks hazardous with east winds 25–30 knots and very rough seas around 9–13 feet, occasionally higher.

Along the coast, the strengthening onshore flow will also boost surf and elevate the rip current threat into the weekend.
