BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Breezy east winds will be the main story in Boca Raton today, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 80. The onshore wind will keep the beach rough, and the rip current risk remains high along the Atlantic coast through late Saturday night. Tonight stays mostly clear and mild, near 71, with the breeze continuing. Rain chances stay low today, then begin to creep up Saturday and Sunday, with a more active stretch of showers and storms possible early to midweek
South Florida is sitting on the south side of a large area of high pressure, and that setup is keeping a steady east wind blowing into Boca Raton today and Saturday. The National Weather Service notes that drier air is filtering in today, which helps explain the mostly sunny forecast and the expectation for little to no rain for most neighborhoods.
Even so, the daily sea breeze can still squeeze out an isolated shower, but the odds are low for Boca today. The bigger impact from this pattern is the wind.
With the pressure pattern locked in, the easterly breeze stays up through at least Saturday, and that onshore flow is pushing rougher surf toward the coast. That’s why the rip current risk remains dangerous at Atlantic beaches, even with nice-looking skies.
By Saturday into Sunday, the forecast starts to bend toward a wetter direction. The AFD highlights a mid-level low near the Bahamas drifting closer, which can add just enough lift to increase shower and thunderstorm chances.
Boaters and beachgoers should plan for hazardous conditions through Saturday night. A fresh to strong east wind continues, with sustained winds around 20 knots and gusts near 25 knots, keeping Atlantic seas in the 4 to 6 foot range (occasionally higher) and making the Intracoastal choppy in exposed areas.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect, and conditions may be especially uncomfortable for smaller vessels and for anyone transiting inlets. Along the coast, the persistent onshore wind will maintain rough surf and a dangerous rip current risk at Atlantic beaches through late Saturday night.
Winds and seas ease some Sunday into Monday, but rain and storms become more likely as the pattern turns wetter next week.
