BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Boca Raton man was arrested after investigators say he pointed a laser at another driver on Interstate 95, an act that authorities say interfered with the victim’s ability to see while operating a vehicle.
Andrew Coletto, 58, of Boca Raton, was taken into custody by the Florida Highway Patrol and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on a felony charge of pointing a laser light at a driver or pilot, according to arrest records.
The incident occurred along the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the State Road 80 entrance ramp in West Palm Beach, an area that serves as a major commuter corridor for Boca Raton residents traveling north into central Palm Beach County.
According to the arrest report, the Lake Worth Communications Center received a call at approximately 8:19 a.m. reporting that the driver of a white box truck had pointed a laser at another motorist. The victim described the vehicle and provided a Florida tag number.
Troopers later located two vehicles stopped on the shoulder of I-95 southbound north of Hypoluxo Road. Investigators determined those vehicles were involved in the reported incident.
The victim, identified in the report as the driver of a gray Ford F-150, told investigators he was traveling southbound on the entrance ramp from Southern Boulevard when he passed the white box truck. He reported that the truck’s driver then shined a green laser through his rear windows and mirrors.
The victim told investigators the laser struck his eyes multiple times, causing him to temporarily lose vision while driving. He followed the truck until both vehicles stopped, and he indicated he was willing to press charges.
Troopers identified the driver of the box truck as Coletto through his Florida driver’s license.
After being advised of his rights, Coletto told investigators that he had pointed the laser at the other driver. He stated he used his right hand and described the laser as green. He also told investigators he pointed it from inside the truck’s front dashboard area and said he did it to scare the other driver after being passed on the right shoulder.
Investigators recovered the laser device, described as black with a green beam, and placed it into evidence.
Based on the investigation, troopers determined that Coletto knowingly and willfully pointed a laser at a person operating a motor vehicle, which is prohibited under Florida Statute 784.062(3)(a).
Coletto was arrested along I-95 near Hypoluxo Road in Lake Worth and transported to the Palm Beach County Jail.
Jail records show he was booked at approximately 10:35 a.m. the same day and later released after posting a $5,000 bond.
The charge is classified as a felony. Florida law treats the use of lasers against drivers and pilots as a public safety offense due to the risk of distraction, temporary blindness, and potential crashes.
The case is being handled in Palm Beach County and has been assigned to the criminal division of the 15th Judicial Circuit. A court appearance is scheduled for April 29 at the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Complex in West Palm Beach.
For Boca Raton residents, the case highlights a specific roadway risk that extends beyond typical traffic enforcement. Interstate 95 remains one of the region’s most heavily traveled corridors, and incidents involving driver impairment—whether from distraction, impairment, or external interference—carry heightened consequences due to traffic volume and speed.
Pointing a laser at a driver can momentarily impair vision, particularly at highway speeds. Investigators treat those incidents as intentional interference with safe vehicle operation, rather than a minor nuisance.
The charge against Coletto will proceed through the court process, where prosecutors will determine how the case moves forward.
