BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Boca Raton school has filed suit in Palm Beach County Circuit Court over a roofing contract that, according to the complaint, was supposed to cover the re-roofing of two buildings on its campus but later became the subject of a dispute over scope, licensing, and additional payment demands.

The case is Boca’s Professional Learning Academy, Inc. d/b/a Boca Lyons Academy v. Florida Pro Roofing & Construction LLC d/b/a Pitch, Dominic Pickard, and John R. Richards, Jr., Case No. 502026CA003146XXXAMB, filed March 18, 2026, in the Circuit Court for the 15th Judicial Circuit in and for Palm Beach County, Florida.

The verified complaint says Boca Lyons Academy operates an educational campus at 22354 Southwest 57th Avenue in Boca Raton and sought bids in the fall of 2025 for re-roofing two flat-roofed buildings identified as Building A and Building B. The school alleges Pickard contacted its representatives while holding himself out as a representative of “Pitch” and engaged in weeks of communications, including calls, texts, and in-person meetings on campus, about pricing, scope, materials, and qualifications.

According to the complaint, Pickard represented that the quoted price of $166,750 covered both flat-roof buildings and compared that proposal against competing bids for both structures. The school says it later received a written agreement dated Dec. 1, 2025, titled “Cost Evaluation for New Versico TPO Roof System Sections A & B,” and that the agreement called for a 50 percent deposit of $83,375 and 50 percent due upon commencement, for a grand total of $166,750. The complaint says the school paid the deposit and that the check was deposited.

The complaint identifies the plaintiff as Boca’s Professional Learning Academy, Inc. d/b/a Boca Lyons Academy. It names Florida Pro Roofing & Construction LLC d/b/a Pitch, Dominic Pickard, and John R. Richards, Jr. as defendants. The filing states venue is proper in Palm Beach County because the property and project are located there and says the school is represented by undersigned counsel, though the defense law firms are not listed on the face of the complaint.

The school claims the contract identified the contracting entity as “Commercial Seminole,” which it says does not correspond to any registered Florida business, fictitious name registration, or contractor license on file. The complaint further alleges the actual holder of the roofing license number listed in the agreement was Richards, described in the filing as the qualifying agent for Florida Pro Roofing & Construction LLC, while Pickard was not a licensed roofing contractor in Florida.

After the deposit was paid, the academy alleges Pickard told the school the contract price covered only Building A, not both Building A and Building B, and demanded significant additional funds to complete work on Building B. The complaint says the defendants failed and refused to perform the contracted work on both buildings and also refused to return the deposit. The school claims the post-payment demand for more money amounted to a repudiation of the agreement as written.

The lawsuit asserts counts for fraud in the inducement, breach of contract, aiding and abetting unlicensed contracting, civil conspiracy, conversion, unjust enrichment, and violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. In the complaint, the academy seeks compensatory damages, consequential damages, treble damages where applicable, disgorgement, prejudgment interest, attorney’s fees, costs, and other relief the court deems proper.

All allegations in the complaint are claims made by the plaintiff and have not been proven in court.

The original complaint, Boca’s Professional Learning Academy, Inc. d/b/a Boca Lyons Academy v. Florida Pro Roofing & Construction LLC d/b/a Pitch, Dominic Pickard, and John R. Richards, Jr., Case No. 502026CA003146XXXAMB, as filed March 18, 2026, with the Palm Beach County Clerk of Court, can be viewed at the PBC Clerk of Court.
