BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a fatal crash on Sandalfoot Boulevard in unincorporated Boca Raton has resulted in a vehicular homicide arrest and a six-figure bond, according to jail and court records.

John Arthur Adams is booked into the Palm Beach County Main Detention Center and faces a charge listed under Florida Statute 782.071(1)(a). Bond is shown at $100,000. Court records also reflect standard conditions including no contact with the victim’s family and potential witnesses, GPS monitoring as part of pretrial supervision, and an order requiring Adams to surrender his passport within 24 hours of release to his attorney.

Investigators tie the charge to a two-vehicle collision that occurred late July 16, 2025, on the westbound lanes of Sandalfoot Boulevard just east of North Branch Road. The crash location is in the 10520 block of Sandalfoot Boulevard, within the unincorporated area of Boca Raton, according to the probable cause narrative.

The sheriff’s office report describes a 2024 Chevrolet Trax traveling westbound on Sandalfoot Boulevard and an electric scooter traveling eastbound. The scooter rider is identified as Alexander Daniel Acevedo of Boca Raton.

The collision description centers on the Chevrolet Trax negotiating a left-hand curve on Sandalfoot Boulevard in a posted 30 mph residential zone. A mathematical reconstruction later estimated the SUV’s speed at about 82 mph prior to impact, investigators wrote. As the SUV approached the 10520 block, the vehicle drifted over and through the center multi-directional turn lane and into the eastbound lane, directly into the scooter’s path, the report states. Investigators wrote the driver applied the brakes in the moments before the crash.

The report says the front passenger-side corner and quarter panel of the SUV struck the scooter and the rider. Acevedo was projected into and partially through the front passenger-side windshield, then vaulted into the air and thrown to the northwest, according to investigators. He came to rest on the north shoulder of Sandalfoot Boulevard.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue pronounced Acevedo dead at the scene, investigators wrote. The sheriff’s office report states neither the SUV’s driver nor the front-seat passenger was injured.

The sheriff’s office narrative also documents what deputies and investigators described as potential impairment indicators after the crash. A responding deputy reported an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver and noted red, bloodshot eyes that appeared “sleepy,” according to the probable cause document.

Investigators also wrote that the SUV’s front-seat passenger provided a sworn recorded statement describing that she and the driver had been “at the beach” and had consumed “a few shots” of an alcoholic beverage before the crash. The statement also references her saying “watch out” moments before impact, according to the report.

Following the initial response, investigators directed that blood be collected under a statutory draw, then obtained a search warrant for a second blood draw, according to the narrative. Toxicology results referenced in the report list ethanol measurements in the blood specimens from the first draw and THC-related compounds, along with additional listed substances in later testing.

The case is set for additional hearings in the weeks ahead, including an arraignment date listed in early March and subsequent return and conference dates later in March and April.
