The Bridge Has Been Repaired. Back To Normal Operation Today.

Update – 4/29/22

The bridge has been fixed. The City of Delray Beach tells Boca Post that the bridge has been repaired and will be operational as of 5 PM, April 29th, 2022.

The 73-year-old bridge has been repaired after a significant malfunction caused it to be opened for nearly two months.

Intermittent closures can be expected while authorities monitor the operation.

Update – 3/7/22

Boca Post heard back from Palm Beach County Roads and bridges department with some news. The part damaged parts were removed from Road & Bridge staff on Saturday. The damaged parts are now being transported to Alabama for the fabrication of new replacement parts. When asked about a tentative date for project completion, the roads and bridges department tells us that is still unknown.

DELRAY BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — You will need to plan on taking an alternate path if planning on traveling across the Intracoastal into Gulf Stream or Delray Beach via the George Bush bridge.

Palm Beach County Road and Bridges department are telling us this morning that the George Bush Bascule Bridge is locked in the open position due to a malfunction.

Bridge staff reportedly became aware of an issue with the bridge on Thursday night at 9:30 PM. The bridge has since been secured but may not be used for travel at this time.

Investigators found that the shaft has been sheared into two pieces. PBC is telling us that the bridge will likely be out of service for the duration of the repair. This is bad news for motor vehicles but good news for large boats that will not be affected by the bridge’s open position.

PBC could not yet provide an estimate of the closure.
