BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Boca Raton man was booked into the Palm Beach County Main Detention Center this week on allegations that a domestic dispute escalated into threats involving a handgun and an incident in which his wife said he poured lighter fluid on her and threw a lit cigarette.

The 30-something-year-old Boca Raton resident was booked Feb. 5, 2026, according to jail records. He is listed as being held on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, along with a misdemeanor domestic battery charge. Jail records showed bond information listed at $0 at the time the booking record was captured.

The allegations are outlined in a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office probable cause affidavit tied to a domestic disturbance call on Feb. 4, 2026.

In the affidavit, a deputy wrote that he was dispatched at about 2:39 p.m. to a reported domestic disturbance after call comments indicated the caller’s husband had “just poured lighter fluid over her” and she was advised to wash it off. The deputy wrote he arrived about 2:46 p.m. and made contact with the reported victim, who said she did not require medical attention and had just taken a shower.

The deputy wrote he observed a bruise and a fresh scratch on the woman’s left arm. The affidavit states the couple’s young child was inside the residence at the time.

According to the woman’s account as summarized in the affidavit, she had returned from a multi-day work trip earlier that day and said she discovered pill packaging hidden in a dresser drawer and realized money had been taken from her while she was away. She told deputies she confronted her husband outside while he was smoking a cigarette, accused him of taking the money, and said he became angry.

The affidavit states the woman left the residence with her child for approximately 20 to 30 minutes and asked her husband to be gone when she returned. She told deputies she came back about an hour later and said her husband was packing his belongings when he retrieved a firearm and held it at his side. The deputy wrote that she reported her husband told her, “If I wanted to kill you, I already could have killed you,” and also said, “It would be such a blessing if that did happen.”

The affidavit states the woman told her husband she was not afraid, but told the deputy she was in fact afraid. She said she did not know what he did with the firearm after that exchange.

The deputy wrote that the woman and child left the residence again and later returned. Back at the home, she began yelling at her husband to leave, and he approached her while yelling, according to the affidavit. She told deputies she grabbed a household cleaning spray bottle from an outdoor counter and sprayed it toward his shirt.

At that point, the affidavit states, the man responded, “I can catch you on fire.” The deputy wrote that the woman reported her husband poured lighter fluid on her back — from her upper back to her lower back — while he was still smoking a cigarette. She said he then threw a lit cigarette at her, though her clothing did not ignite. She told deputies she ran inside the home and that her husband followed, throwing items inside the residence, including a laundry basket that broke, along with drinks.

According to the affidavit, the woman told deputies her husband would not leave the residence. She said she released the family’s puppy in an attempt to lure him outside so she could lock the door, but instead he grabbed the dog and then grabbed her, causing the bruise and scratch observed by the deputy. The affidavit states the child witnessed portions of the incident.

The deputy wrote that the man later left the residence in a sedan. At the scene, deputies reported observing a cleaning spray bottle on the back porch, a lighter fluid container that appeared partially full, broken household items, and the woman’s shirt near the front door. The deputy wrote the shirt had a faint odor consistent with lighter fluid, and that another deputy photographed the scene and evidence.

The affidavit states the woman later located a handgun inside the residence and provided it to deputies. A records check indicated the firearm had been reported stolen several years earlier and had not been reported recovered.

The deputy wrote he conducted sworn, recorded interviews with both the woman and the child. According to the affidavit, the child reported hearing arguing and seeing her mother spray her father with cleaning spray, but said she did not see a firearm.

As the investigation continued, the deputy wrote he advised the woman that because her husband had legal access to the residence, it would be safer for her and her child to stay elsewhere. The affidavit states she made arrangements and left later that evening. The deputy also wrote that the man called the woman’s phone while deputies were still on scene; the deputy said he answered, identified himself, and the man said he wanted his belongings so he could leave the state but would not meet with deputies.
