BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office is telling Boca Post tonight that a “distraction burglary” occurred in unincorporated Boca Raton on July 7th, 2022.

PBSO says that the incident happened at 1:30 PM on 7/7/22.

An elderly woman answered the door to find a male and a female say they needed to check for a water leak. Once inside the house, the female suspect allegedly distracted the elderly woman while the male suspect entered the bedroom and stole jewelry and her checkbook.

The missing jewelry was said to be valued at $15,000.

A Distraction Burglary is when someone uses trickery to gain access to your home. Oftentimes, suspects will impersonate official persons of authority or utility personnel to gain entry to your home. While they are in the home, one person will generally stay with the victim and the other will steal your personal belongings.

Distraction burglary is a crime that is primarily targeted at older, more vulnerable populations. Areas like Kings Point, Century Village, and other 55+ communities in Boca Raton are much more likely to be hit by these thieves.

Anyone who can identify these suspects is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
