BOCA RATON, FL — Demand for the concert was strong enough to turn one show into two.

Grammy-nominated saxophonist Najee is booked for two performances at Crazy Uncle Mike's in Boca Raton on Friday, Aug. 14, presented by Sound Merchandise Entertainment. The shows are set for 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., and both are billed as intimate concerts inside the Federal Highway venue.

Sound Merchandise Entertainment said it added the second set because of demand for the first. The company is presenting the night as "An Intimate Evening with Najee," part of what it calls its Sip & Mingle Live Music Series.

For South Florida jazz fans, the draw is the room. Najee has spent more than four decades as a touring headliner, and the promoter is putting him in a club-sized setting rather than a large hall. Crazy Uncle Mike's is at 6450 N. Federal Highway in Boca Raton.

Najee, a saxophonist and flutist, has been one of the more recognizable names in contemporary jazz since the 1980s. According to Sound Merchandise Entertainment, his career includes collaborations with Quincy Jones, Prince, Chaka Khan, George Duke and Herbie Hancock.

"This is exactly the type of experience Sound Merchandise Entertainment was created to bring to South Florida," said Dr. J. Marc Davis, president of the company, in the announcement. "Our goal has always been to give audiences the opportunity to experience world-class artists in an intimate environment where every seat feels personal."

Seating is the practical catch. The company said tickets for both performances were selling quickly with limited seating remaining, so fans deciding between the early and late show may not want to wait. Tickets are listed through soundmerchandise.com.

For anyone coming from out of town, the promoter named Embassy Suites by Hilton Boca Raton as the official hotel partner, with discounted rates available for the event.

The event is one of a run of contemporary jazz shows Sound Merchandise Entertainment produces in South Florida under its Sip & Mingle series, according to the company. Details beyond what the organizer provided, including ticket prices and the full seating layout, were not included in the announcement.
