A Brightline train crosses a Boca Raton intersection along the Florida East Coast Railway corridor.

BOCA RATON, FL — The closures are short, but they cover almost every major east-west route through Boca Raton.

Ten Brightline railroad crossings across the city are scheduled for full closures or lane restrictions between Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 22, as crews install safety upgrades along the Florida East Coast Railway corridor. The work is being carried out by the Florida Department of Transportation and its contractor, Gonzalez & Sons Equipment, according to a project advisory provided to Boca Post.

The schedule affects some of the busiest crossings in the city, including Yamato Road, Glades Road, Palmetto Park Road, Spanish River Boulevard, and Camino Real.

According to the advisory, crews will install delineators, raised pavement markers, striping, and signs at each crossing. The work is part of a broader Federal Railroad Administration grant project running along the FECR corridor from Cocoa to Miami.

Unless otherwise noted on the schedule, work hours will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Boca Raton crossing schedule

According to the advisory, the following crossings will be affected:

  • Hidden Valley: Tuesday, July 14
  • Yamato Road: Wednesday, July 15, lane closures only, 7 a.m. to noon
  • Palmetto Park Road: Wednesday, July 15, lane closures only
  • Glades Road: Thursday, July 16, lane closures only, noon to 5 p.m.
  • NW 28th Street: Thursday, July 16

  • NW 20th Street: Monday, July 20
  • SW 18th Street: Tuesday, July 21
  • Camino Real: Wednesday, July 22, lane closures only, noon to 5 p.m.
  • NE 2nd Street: Wednesday, July 22

The advisory states that pedestrian detours will be coordinated by maintenance-of-traffic employees on site. The schedule can be affected by weather.

Federal grant background

The work is part of a package of Federal Railroad Administration grants announced in September 2025 to fund safety projects along Brightline's Florida corridor. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the department obligated more than $42 million across four grants, including a $24.9 million grant to FDOT for improvements to 330 highway-railroad crossings along 195 miles of the corridor.

The federal package also includes $15.4 million for a Broward County sealed corridor project, $1.6 million for a trespassing identification and classification system, and up to $150,000 for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office to fund overtime for pedestrian trespassing enforcement at identified hot spots, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Brightline's Florida corridor has multiple exposure points to pedestrian and vehicle traffic, and the federal grants are intended to fund fencing, grade crossing upgrades, and a trespassing alert system, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

What to watch

Drivers who use Yamato Road, Palmetto Park Road, Glades Road, Spanish River Boulevard, or Camino Real should plan for delays or alternate routes on the scheduled dates. Pedestrians should expect on-site rerouting at the affected crossings.

The advisory does not list a public contact for real-time updates or specify how weather-related rescheduling will be announced.
